A person has died at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam after becoming trapped in a running aircraft engine, according to police.
The Dutch airline KLM said the aircraft was bound for Billund in Denmark, carrying passengers on flight KL1341.
In a statement, the company said: “We are currently taking care of the passengers and employees who witnessed the incident at Schiphol.”
Dutch media reported that the aircraft was due to take off when the person was killed.
Posting on X, a Royal Military Police account in the Netherlands said: “An incident occurred this afternoon on the Schiphol platform where a person fell into a running aircraft engine and died.”
An investigation has been launched, they added.
Also writing on X, Schiphol Airport said: “Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we care for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this.
“The Royal Military Police is currently conducting an investigation.”
Schipol Airport also confirmed the death, describing the incident as “horrible”.
