Murder investigation launched after boy, 13, stabbed to death in West Midlands

Police say they are following “active lines of inquiry” after launching a murder investigation following the death of a 13-year-old boy found stabbed.
Officers were called at 4pm on Thursday to a home on Lovett Avenue in the West Midlands market town of Oldbury.
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill told reporters it was a “truly sad and tragic incident”, adding that paramedics “worked in vain to try to save his young life”.
“We have a team of detectives investigating exactly what happened, and we are following active lines of inquiry to find the suspects.
“We know that the incident took place inside his home, and I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward.”
Forensics officers have been deployed to a semi-detached house in the street, which remained cordoned off.
People have been leaving flowers outside the house, with several bouquets left propped against the front door alongside teddies and candles.

Resident shocked by teen murder
Earlier Detective Superintendent Shaun Edwards, from the force’s homicide team, described the “absolutely tragic” young life which has been lost.
“We have specialist officers who will be supporting the family of the boy.
“We have detectives working flat out to find whoever is responsible and bring them into custody as soon as possible.”

Resident Jacqueline Burgher told Sky News she was “in shock” at the stabbing.
“It’s a child,” she said. “It’s a life. A life is worth something. I don’t know how they [family] must be feeling. I’m in shock, I’m dismayed.”
