Prospective home buyers need to have incomes of at least $100,000 and as high as $171,000 to afford a median-priced home in 10 New Jersey counties in the last quarter of 2022, according to data from ATTOM, a national real estate data firm.

Nationally, California and New York accounted for all top 10 spots with the highest wages required for home ownership, according to ATTOM. San Mateo County in California, outside San Francisco, was top overall at $367,563, followed by New York County, otherwise known as Manhattan, at $364,861.

Bergen County topped New Jerseys list for highest wages needed for home ownership in the last quarter of 2022 among the 18 counties included in ATTOMs analysis.
