A food delivery driver escaped two people who allegedly tried to rob her Tuesday night outside a home in Passaic County, authorities said.

The driver was attempting to make a delivery about 9 p.m. to a home in Clifton at what later turned out to be a bogus address, according to police Det. Lt. Robert Bracken.

When the victim approached the area of delivery, she became apprehensive when she could not locate the exact address, Bracken said in a statement.

About the same time, a person standing in a nearby driveway told the driver to get out of her car. When the victim refused, the person approached her car and tried to get in on the passenger side, Bracken said.

At the same time, a (man) appeared out of the darkness and began tapping a knife on the drivers side window of the victims vehicle, Bracken said.

The delivery person then pulled away and drove to police headquarters, where she reported the attempted robbery, Bracken said.

Officers then searched the area and arrested two people near a bus stop on Broad Street, Bracken said.

As police took the suspects into custody, officers found a loaded handgun on one person and a knife believed used in the crime nearby, Bracken said.

Najim Wadud, 18, of East Orange, was charged with robbery, weapons offenses and employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime. A 17-year-old girl from Newark was charged with robbery and weapons offenses, Bracken said.

This was the most recent incident in a series of food delivery robberies occurring throughout North Jersey, some of which have involved the victims being pistol whipped and sustaining serious injuries, Bracken said.

Police in nearby Nutley and Belleville said earlier this month they were searching for suspects in the gunpoint robberies of food delivery drivers.

In the Nutley robbery, which occurred about 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, a driver was threatened at gunpoint by a man and woman who stole his money, food and car, according to police.

In Belleville, a food delivery worker was robbed about 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 on Lake Street by a man who shoved a handgun into his abdomen, stole $60 and the food he was delivering. A second suspect emerged from a nearby vehicle and struck the victim, police said.
