A 51-year-old man from Jersey City was killed Thanksgiving night when his pickup truck hit a median and flipped over on Route 1 in Woodbridge, police said.

The overturned truck was then hit by a second vehicle, which officials learned was stolen, according to Woodbridge Township Police Department officials. All three occupants of the stolen vehicle were arrested.

Manuel Pujols was driving his pickup truck on Route 1 southbound near Route 35 in Woodbridge around 9:32 p.m. Thanksgiving night when his vehicle hit the median for an unknown reason and flipped over, according to Sergeant Joseph Angelo.

A short time later, the stolen car struck the overturned vehicle in the southbound lane, Angelo said.

Pujols was transported to JFK University Medical Center in Edison, where he was pronounced dead Thursday night. It is unclear if Pujols died when his truck flipped over or after the stolen car hit his vehicle, Angelo said.

The occupants of the stolen vehicle Ulyssee McDonald Jr., 23, Terrence McDonald, 19, and an unidentified 17-year-old were each charged with receiving stolen property, police said. They are all from Elizabeth, according to authorities.

Police are still investigating the cause of the initial crash and the secondary collision, including who was driving the stolen Hyundai when it hit Pujols truck.
