This 2025 laggard is off to a strong start in 2026 — why the rally may not last

Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a “Morning Meeting” livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here’s a recap of Thursday’s key moments. 1. The Nasdaq tumbled Thursday as investors moved away from tech stocks. Meanwhile, the Dow advanced, and the S & P 500 was little changed. Investors shouldn’t make any sudden moves right now, advised Jim Cramer, explaining that the market often displays “strange patterns” in the first full trading week of the year that don’t last. He added, “This is not a moment to make big bets.” 2. Cantor Fitzgerald upgraded Club holding Alphabet to a buy-equivalent rating from hold, and raised its price target to $370 from $310 apiece. Analysts said that the Google parent has the “strongest footprint across several layers in the AI tech stack,” citing the success of Gemini, the company’s large language models, and associated AI assistant. It’s another reason we’re thrilled to have added Alphabet back to the portfolio last month. 3. Texas Roadhouse stock is off to a strong start to 2026, surging nearly 8% year-to-date after a poor 2025 performance. However, the run may be short-lived because the same problem that plagued the stock last year — rising beef prices — remains a concern. “I’m not saying sell it,” Jim said. “I just want people to be aware. … They’re going to have some earnings risk when we do get the quarter.” 4. Stocks covered in Thursday’s rapid fire at the end of the video were: Constellation Brands , Ford , Gap , AbbVie , and Darden . (Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust is long TXRH, GOOGL. See here for a full list of the stocks.) As a subscriber to the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer, you will receive a trade alert before Jim makes a trade. Jim waits 45 minutes after sending a trade alert before buying or selling a stock in his charitable trust’s portfolio. If Jim has talked about a stock on CNBC TV, he waits 72 hours after issuing the trade alert before executing the trade.
