A man has been shot dead in east London, police have said.

A murder investigation has been launched after the victim – believed to be aged in his 30s – was found with a gunshot wound in Barking shortly after 4.30am.

He was treated by emergency workers but died at the scene.

Police were called after reports of a man injured in Linton Road. A crime scene is in place.

The Metropolitan Police said no arrests have been made.

Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Lewis Basford said officers were “working diligently to piece together the events that has led to this shooting and identify who is responsible”.
