Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop did more than announce he wont seek re-election in 2025 on Tuesday. He revved up speculation about who may be seeking to succeed Phil Murphy as New Jerseys governor three years from now.

Fulops decision is widely seen as a sign hes setting himself up to be a candidate in the 2025 gubernatorial race an election that already has a big crowd of potential contenders jockeying behind the scenes for the open seat. Murphy is limited to two terms and cant run again.
