A Middle Township woman died Wednesday afternoon after her car crashed into a township home, police said.

Officers were called to the 1600 block of Route 9 around 2:20 p.m. and when they arrived they were able to pull the 54-year-old driver from the wreckage, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Middle Township Police Department. Her cause of death was pending the results of an autopsy.

The house had minor damage and nobody inside was injured, police said.

It was unclear what caused the crash, police said. Detectives said no other vehicles were involved.

Route 9 was closed in both directions between Main Street and Trail Road for about two hours while the crash was being investigated, the department said.
