BEIJING – Chinese travel platforms are seeing a surge in the number of searches and bookings for trips a day after travel restrictions were lifted, even as worries of an uncontrollable wave of infections grow.

Searches for air tickets on CTrip, Chinas biggest travel online company, soared 438 per cent on Thursday, a day after the national health authority scrapped onerous requirements that had prevented millions of people from regular travel to other cities or provinces.
