Singer Peter Andre has revealed his house was “struck by lightning” as thunderstorms raged across the south and east of England on Sunday night.
The pop star posted a video on Instagram showing the damage to his property, describing the storm as “mad”.
He wrote: “Our house just got struck by lightning. The loudest thing I’ve ever heard. Alarms going off. This is mad.”
The footage showed damage to a chimney and pieces of masonry on the lawn below.
Andre added: “Thank God Princess (his daughter, 15) is okay. Although don’t know what was louder, her scream or the roof.”
Loud claps of thunder were heard in London from late afternoon onwards as swirling winds and torrential rain battered the capital.
In Clapham, south London, a car was pictured with the top of a tree across its bonnet and windscreen.
The tree’s trunk appeared to have sheared in two as it fell, lighter shaded bark from its interior visible as it rested across a grass verge and pavement.
To the east, in Peckham, a man was videoed cycling through floodwater as another resident walked past shops in wellington boots.
Flooding was also reported in King’s Cross.
It is expected to be mostly mild again today, but it will be windy across many central and southern parts, and very windy near Channel coasts.
Most areas can expect sunny spells and a scattering of showers this afternoon, possibly thundery in the far south.
