Regular viewers may have trouble believing their eyes when Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall make a guest appearance in EastEnders early next month.

Charles and Camilla were in Albert Square in March when they visited the new Elstree set, meeting cast and crew.

But now it’s emerged they also performed for the soap cameras.

Though it hasn’t been disclosed exactly what the royal couple will be doing (pulling pints in the ‘Vic?), they were amazing sports, said actress Kellie Bright, who plays Linda Carter.

Viewers have already seen Mick Carter – Danny Dyer – announce he’s throwing a jubilee party for the square.

Later, he will tease that some very special guests will be in coming.

But locals will be shocked when they realise the heir to the throne and the duchess have decided to join them – and, maybe, tuck into some jellied eels.

Mick and Linda Carter greet Charles and Camilla at the party and introduce them to the Walford residents.

“I did think what amazing sports that they are just willing to do it,” Bright said.

“I just thought, ‘Wow, they’ve never done anything like this before.’ They didn’t really know what to expect – I mean, it must have been nerve-wracking for them and completely out of their norm.

“So I just hope they enjoyed it as much as we did.”

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw said it was “one of EastEnders’ most special episodes” and the cast and crew were “truly honoured to have both the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall appear”.

He added: “Linda Carter is naturally in her element and giddy with excitement as their Royal Highnesses arrive in Walford.

“But it wasn’t just her, as for all of us at EastEnders, it was an extremely special day that will go down in EastEnders’ history.”

The episode airs on 2 June.

The Queen visited the set in 2001, meeting Dame Barbara Windsor, who played Peggy Mitchell.
