The body of a young boy has been found hidden inside a suitcase in Indiana.
The child, who has not yet been identified, was found by a mushroom hunter in the middle of a wooded area in Washington County over the weekend.
State police said the hard suitcase featured a distinctive Las Vegas design on its front and back, as the force appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
Officers believe the boy was between five and eight years old but an autopsy was unable to confirm his age or his cause of death.
The results of a toxicology report, which show if any drugs were in the boy’s system, are still pending.
Police believe the boy, who has been described as black, with a slender build and a short haircut, died sometime within the last week.
A tip line in the case was set up on Monday and has generated about 200 calls from members of the public, but none of the responses have led to the identification of the boy, Indiana State Police said in a statement.
“We have reached out to local agencies, not just here in Indiana, but Kentucky, and Ohio as well,” Sergeant Carey Huls said. “At this point, we still don’t have a name.”
He added that investigators initially believed the boy was from the area, but they have not received any tips or information about a missing child from the region and they now believe he could be from elsewhere.
Anybody with information on the boy is asked to call 1-888-437-6432.
